The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, provided a clear date regarding İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu's candidacy for the presidency. Özel stated, "Ekrem İmamoğlu will officially announce his candidacy in an election on March 23, 2025, where 1.7 million of our members will go directly to the polls."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at the meeting of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. Özel made striking remarks regarding İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu's candidacy for the presidency.
ÖZEL'S "İMAMOĞLU" STATEMENT
Referring to the primary election in the CHP, party leader Özel said: "You are all closely following the pressures and the harassment of the judiciary under the control of the government. We are rising up against this process not with passive resistance, but with a defiant stand and objection.
"CANDIDACY WILL BE OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED ON MARCH 23"
Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, our jewel that has served as the capital of the world's most renowned power empires, will officially announce his candidacy on March 23, 2025, in an election where 1 million 700 thousand of our members will go directly to the polls.
In a process open to many candidates, the trust placed in him and the societal support that has developed against the attacks he has faced have made him the sole candidate in this primary election. However, this situation has not only placed the responsibility of gathering millions behind him but also on our party."
MANSUR YAVAŞ: OTHER OPTIONS ON THE TABLE ARE ALWAYS ON THE AGENDA
On the other hand, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş had said the following regarding the issue in recent weeks: "May the primary election be beneficial. Other than that, we have nothing to say, we are watching. Other options on the table are always on the agenda; that's all I will say."
