The procedures in family courts are being completely overhauled. With the new regulations, divorce cases will be expedited, and the division of property, alimony, compensation, and custody cases will be conducted separately. The situation regarding lifetime alimony will be subject to certain conditions.

The regulation being worked on by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Family and Social Services will be implemented within the framework of the Judicial Reform Strategy Document. The "Family Law Evaluation Board," established to address the shortcomings in family law, is creating a new system by examining international examples.
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, among the main agenda items of the study are the acceleration of the divorce process and the reorganization of the indefinite alimony application.
THE DIVORCE LAWSUIT PROCESS WILL BE SHORTENED
In the current system, issues such as divorce lawsuits, alimony, custody, and property division are handled through a single case, which can take years. With the new regulation, divorce cases will be concluded quickly, while other issues will be addressed as separate lawsuits. This will prevent the psychological and economic victimization caused by years-long judicial processes in contentious divorces.
INDEFINITE ALIMONY IS BECOMING HISTORY
The indefinite alimony application is largely coming to an end. When determining the duration of alimony, criteria such as the duration of marriage, the economic situation of the parties, whether there are children, and the degree of fault will be taken into account.
HERE ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED
For women who are unable to work or are over a certain age, alimony may be indefinite. However, the lifelong alimony obligation will end in short marriages.
