ATTEMPT TO LYNCH WHEN THE HARASSMENT NEWS WAS HEARDThe incident occurred late at night in the Central Neighborhood of Kaynarca district. Allegedly, a person of Indian nationality harassed a young woman by making inappropriate remarks to her in a market. The people around reacted to the person. After the news spread, a crowd that gathered in the area tried to lynch the person who was accused of making inappropriate remarks to the young girl. The person, whose name has not been identified yet, escaped to the building where he lived. The building that the person entered by escaping was stoned and its windows were broken. Upon being informed about the situation, a large number of police and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. The crowd gathered in the area threw stones at the building where the foreign nationals were staying and broke its windows. The person who was accused of harassment was rescued from the lynching by the police teams. The angry crowd at the scene, where gendarmerie teams were also dispatched, was calmed down with difficulty. STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP AFTER THE TENSIONIn a written statement made by the Sakarya Governorship regarding the issue, it was stated, "Upon the allegation of harassment against a foreign national in our Kaynarca district, our law enforcement units immediately took action and the said person was detained, and a legal process has been initiated. The issue is being closely followed by our Governorship, and it is respectfully announced to the public that they should not give credit to anyone other than the official statements made by the authorities while behaving with restraint." FOREIGN NATIONALS EVACUATED FROM THE DISTRICTMeanwhile, it was learned that in the building where the person who was detained for harassment and took refuge, other individuals of Indian nationality lived, and they worked as employees at AS Tavuk company in the region. After the incident, the building was evacuated and the foreign nationals were handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration and were evacuated from the district. The person who was detained regarding the issue will be referred to the courthouse after the necessary procedures at the police station.
