Police intervened in the press statement that Education Union members wanted to make in front of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to protest the teaching profession law. During the altercation, 11 teachers were detained, and Education Union President Kemal Irmak stated, "You deceived us. You said 'law, law'. We know those laws better than you."
Police intervened in the march of Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-Sen) members who wanted to hold a press statement in front of the Parliament to protest the Teaching Profession Law, and 11 teachers were detained. Pepper spray was used in the intervention against the educators.
THEY ENCOUNTERED HARSH INTERVENTION
Education-Sen members, who broke through the police blockade in front of the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and started marching, encountered the harsh intervention of riot police. Intense pepper spray was used during the harsh intervention against Education-Sen members who were pushed from in front of the MEB towards Kızılay direction.
"WE WANT TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF OUR FRIENDS"
Kemal Irmak, the General President of Education-Sen, made a statement after the intervention, saying, "We want to ensure the safety of our friends who are in custody and we want them to be released as soon as possible."
"THE FASCISM YOU IMPLEMENT"
Irmak, who reacted to the denial of the press statement, said, "These barricades are not set up for those who sexually abuse children in religious lodges, for the five-member gangs. What we were going to do was easy. You have been exhausting us since morning. You deceived us. You said 'law, law'. We know those laws better than you. The fascism you implement. We will continue to stand guard in the National Sovereignty Park until our friends are released."
11 TEACHERS DETAINED
During the march of Education-Sen teachers, the police frequently warned them to disperse. The teachers who continued their actions faced police intervention. 11 teachers were detained. After the police intervention, Education-Sen members gathered in the National Sovereignty Park next to the Parliament and will keep vigil in the park until the 11 detainees are released.
