A passenger ship carrying 267 people capsized off the coast of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Following the incident, teams from health, police, and non-governmental organizations at Taşucu Port in Mersin began preparations for a possible response.
Following the capsizing of a passenger ship carrying 267 people off the coast of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), teams from health, police, and non-governmental organizations are preparing at Taşucu Port in Mersin.
7 LIVES LOST
A passenger ship carrying 267 people, 259 passengers and 8 crew members, which departed from Girne Port in the TRNC to Taşucu Port in the Silifke district of Mersin, capsized 7 kilometers off the port. While 230 people were rescued, 7 people lost their lives, and search efforts continue for 23 people.
PREPARATIONS AT TAŞUCU PORT IN MERSIN
Upon the notification of the situation, numerous search and rescue teams were dispatched to the region. While work continues in the area, health, police, and non-governmental organization teams in Mersin have also begun preparations at Taşucu Port. It was reported that the teams are on standby to intervene in case of any eventuality.
