President Erdoğan confirmed the claims that they closed Turkish airspace to the plane of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who wanted to attend the COP29 summit in Baku. In his statement, Erdoğan said, "We must take a stand on certain issues as Turkey, and we will continue to do so."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered journalists' questions at the G20 summit. He confirmed the claims that Turkey closed its airspace to the President of Israel. In his statement, Erdoğan said, "We did not allow Israeli President Isaac Herzog to use Turkish airspace to attend the COP climate summit in Azerbaijan," and added, "We offered him alternative routes."
HE HAD TO CANCEL HIS VISIT
Due to Turkey's closure of its airspace, Herzog had to cancel his visit. In a statement from the Israeli Presidency, it was stated, "For security reasons, the President has canceled his decision to attend the Climate Conference in Azerbaijan."
"WE HAVE TO TAKE A STAND"
When Erdoğan was asked whether Herzog attended the Climate Summit, he said, "Honestly, I do not know if he went or not." He indicated that he did not have clear information regarding Herzog's visit to Baku. Erdoğan added, "As Turkey, we have to take a stand on certain issues, and we will continue to do so."
