President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a phone conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During the discussion, the export of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey was addressed, and negotiations for updating the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries were also brought to the table.

EXPORT OF EUROFIGHTER TO TURKEY
According to a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, during the meeting, bilateral relations between Turkey and the UK, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed, and the progress made regarding the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets was evaluated. It was noted that the developments recorded in this regard would positively contribute to the cooperation between Turkey and the UK.
FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
President Erdoğan stated that they hope to achieve results from the negotiations to update the Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and the UK within this year.
ACCESS TO HUMANITARIAN AID IN GAZA
During the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is very dire, that deaths from hunger cannot be prevented, and that access to humanitarian aid in Gaza must be ensured as soon as possible.
TURKEY NEARS CONCLUSION IN EUROFIGHTER AGREEMENT
Eurofighter is produced by a consortium consisting of British BAE Systems, French Airbus, and Italian Leonardo, which are the three largest defense companies in Europe.
According to a report by the US-based Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Turkey is nearing a conclusion in the acquisition of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. The report claimed that Turkey could soon announce a deal worth approximately $5.6 billion for 40 Eurofighter jets.
ERDOĞAN SAID "I BELIEVE WE WILL ACQUIRE THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE"
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a statement to reporters on the plane returning from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, said, "Currently, we are taking steps regarding the acquisition of jet aircraft with the UK and Germany. The British and Germans are approaching positively on this matter. I believe we will acquire our jet aircraft as soon as possible."
Erdoğan stated, "In my discussions with British Prime Minister Mr. Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, I saw that they have a positive view on the matter, and hopefully, we will take these steps as well."
GERMAN CHANCELLOR MERZ: WE ARE MOVING TOWARDS A GOOD DECISION
Last week, British Prime Minister Starmer hosted German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in London, and both leaders were asked about the export of Eurofighter to Turkey. Merz responded to the question, "Are you ready to deliver these aircraft to Turkey?" by saying, "We have not yet made a decision regarding export licenses, but we are moving towards a good decision that will enable or facilitate such an export license."
