Co-Chair of the DEM Party, Tuncer Bakırhan, spoke for the first time regarding MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's proposal of "a Kurdish and an Alevi vice president."

Bakırhan commented on Bahçeli's proposal, saying, "Why can't the President be Kurdish as well? We are candidates to govern. I don't know what the political equation and ground will be suitable for in the upcoming period, but of course, it is valuable and important for all the colors and differences present in our country to be represented and to have a place in governance."

"THE MEETING WITH MIT IS CONFIDENTIAL"

Speaking about the meeting held with MIT President İbrahim Kalın in the Parliament, Bakırhan stated, "The meeting we had with the National Intelligence is confidential. Therefore, I will not disclose what we discussed, but it went well, it was positive. We evaluated the situation, and they informed us. That's all I can convey."

"THE EXPECTATION OF THE SOCIETY FROM CHP IS VERY HIGH"

In his statement, Bakırhan called on the CHP regarding the Terror-Free Turkey process, saying, "I say this very sincerely and with conviction, especially regarding the democratic solution to the Kurdish issue, the expectation of society from the Republican People's Party, with its founding party identity and historical values, is very high. Because this issue is the most fundamental element of Turkey's democratization and social peace. We believe that taking on this historical responsibility and being part of the solution effort will be the most correct step for all of us and the future of our country. The entire society also expects this direction from the political institution and political parties. I hope the political institution will also demonstrate this practice and working style."

WHAT HAPPENED?

It was reported that during a meeting a few months ago with MHP deputies, Devlet Bahçeli stated, "Let the President have two vice presidents, one should be Kurdish, and the other should be Alevi."

In a written statement yesterday, Bahçeli confirmed his words, stating, "In a period where Turkey is gradually progressing towards a Terror-Free Turkey, which causes ethnic and sectarian-based impositions that tire, wear out, and drain its energy, leading to exorbitant social and economic costs, it has been evaluated that one of the two Vice Presidents could be Alevi and the other could be Kurdish."

Bahçeli, who claimed that the proposal was distorted, said, "To associate this idea and political proposal with Lebanon is, once again, a distortion and a deliberate misrepresentation of a sincere thought. No one can, or will, have the power to turn Turkey into the complex and chaotic unstable structure of Lebanon or another similar country, nor will anyone dare to attempt it."
