A 17.79% increase in the minimum wage has been implemented in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC). With the decision accepted by a majority vote, the net minimum wage has risen to 44,546 TL, while the gross minimum wage has increased to 51,202 TL.
The long-awaited interim salary increase decision has been announced in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, chaired by the Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, determined the new minimum wage after three sessions.
EMPLOYERS OBJECTED BUT...
While worker and employer representatives sat at the table during the meetings, the employer side objected to the rate of the increase. However, as a result of the voting, an increase of 17.79% was accepted by a majority vote.
HISTORICAL LEVEL IN MINIMUM WAGE
Following the decision to increase, the net minimum wage in the TRNC has exceeded the 44,000 TL barrier for the first time, reaching 44,546 TL. The gross wage was determined to be 51,202 TL.
The picture that emerged with the new regulation:
- Weekly wage: 11,815 TL
- Daily wage: 2,363 TL
- Hourly wage: 295 TL
EMPLOYEES ARE SATISFIED WITH THE SITUATION
This increase in the minimum wage has been welcomed by the working class, while employers expressed their concerns about the sustainability of the increase due to rising costs.
"OUR AIM IS FOR OUR WORKERS TO LIVE COMFORTABLY"
Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu made his first statements regarding the salary strategies for 2026. The Minister stated that they aim to both protect the purchasing power of employees and alleviate the financial burden on employers in the new period. Emphasizing that they want to bring clear solutions to many issues that have been on the agenda for years but have not been resolved, Gardiyanoğlu said, "Our aim is for our workers to be able to live more comfortably, and for our employers to reach a sustainable structure in terms of costs." It was stated that the studies to be carried out in this context would aim to maintain both employment and wage balance.
THE INCREASE RATE MAY BE LIMITED IN 2026
Minister Gardiyanoğlu announced that the next minimum wage increase would be made in January 2026, stating that it is planned to keep the increase rate at lower levels with the policies to be implemented. It is remembered that at the beginning of 2025, a 7.5% increase was made in the minimum wage, raising the net wage to 37,818 TL.
