President Erdogan filed a criminal complaint against FETO member Burkay Karatepe, who participated in the assassination attempt against him on July 15 and was captured 10 years later, as well as those who helped him escape. In the petition submitted to the Mugla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that the coup-attempting terrorist and his accomplices be prosecuted on serious charges, including "assassination of the President" and "violation of the constitution."
The legal process has begun regarding FETÖ member Burkay Karatepe, who participated in the assassination attempt against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Marmaris during the July 15 coup attempt and was captured after being sought with a red notice for 10 years. President Erdoğan's lawyer, Hüseyin Aydın, submitted the complaint petition prepared against Karatepe and his accomplices who welcomed him during his fugitive period to the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
AGGRAVATED CHARGES
In the petition submitted to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, severe penalties were requested for Karatepe, who was caught after a 10-year flight, and for those who aided and abetted him. The prominent charges in the public lawsuit requested to be filed within the scope of the investigation were as follows:
Assassination of the President
Violation of the Constitution
Destroying the unity of the state and the integrity of the country
Being a member of a terrorist organization
Harboring a criminal.

In the petition, it was emphasized that Karatepe, who acted in line with the instructions of FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen, aimed to eliminate Erdoğan, the first President elected by the people's votes. It was stated that the suspect's actions were not only a personal attack but also aimed at weakening the independence of the state by creating chaos in the country.
