After Israel's approval of the agreement, Qatar's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed al-Ansari announced that the ceasefire would begin tomorrow (January 19, Sunday) at 09:30.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements regarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza at the AK Party Adana 8th Ordinary Provincial Congress.
Emphasizing that the people of Gaza would be able to breathe a little easier after 15 months, Erdoğan stated, "Despite the massacre that the Israeli government has been carrying out for 467 days, it has not been able to break the resistance will of our brothers in Gaza."
Despite all that has happened, Erdoğan stated that the Palestinian people could not be subdued and did not give up, drawing attention to Netanyahu's extensive record of ceasefire violations, and that this time it should not be allowed.
Highlights from Erdoğan's speech are as follows:
"I want to express one point first. The laments of Yemen and Sarıkamış, the laments of the Avşar are testimonies to the deep spirit of Adana. We do not see Adana as merely consisting of turnip juice, kebabs, cotton, oranges, and heat like some do. Adana is the homeland of martyrs; it is the land of brave people who speak directly what they mean."
WE WILL NOT FALL INTO THE TRAPS OF THE OPPOSITION
Every position we hold is entrusted to us by our nation. We have great goals, dear brothers. For this, if necessary, we will trample our own desires, we will turn our nights into days. We will not fall into the traps that the opposition is trying to set for us. No one can rescue those who have fallen from the hearts of the nation. We owe this nation not only a debt of gratitude but also a debt of life.
The 61 years of oppression of the Baath regime in Syria and the 14 years of bloody war. Our Syrian brothers sacrificed 1 million people for their freedom. In this process, where our humanity was tested, we pursued a policy worthy of our faith, culture, and history. We embraced the oppressed. We held the hand of the stranger, we sheltered the orphan. While we stood by the oppressed, the candidate against us in the elections of May 14-28 came out and said as an election promise, 'We will send them all back.'
"WE DID WHAT SUITS US"
By sticking labels on the right and left, they targeted these oppressed people who fled the oppression in Syria and sought refuge in our country. They pretended to do politics with Hitler-like methods. Our nation gave the necessary response to this inhumanity at the ballot box. Then, his party pulled the chair from under him. Now, there is neither anyone knocking on the door nor anyone asking. We did what suits us. Those who pursue a politics of hatred also did what suits them. We saw in the Syrian crisis that the end of patience is safety.
With Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, Circassians, Christians, Druze, and all other elements, Syria has been liberated. Moreover, after 13 years of longing, our guests are returning to their homes with their heads held high. We voluntarily provide the necessary facilitation for our brothers who wish to return to their countries, and we do not force anyone. The project to divide Syria into three parts and turn it into easily digestible bites has collapsed. As Turkey, we will provide all kinds of support to our brothers, leaving behind the pains experienced in Syria.
"ISRAEL COULD NOT BREAK GAZA'S RESISTANCE"
After Syria, we received a piece of news that quenched the fire in our hearts from Gaza. With our intense efforts, an agreement was reached for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. After 15 months, the people of Gaza will be able to breathe a little easier. Despite the massacre that the Israeli government has been carrying out for 467 days, it has not been able to break the resistance will of our brothers in Gaza. They bombed our approximately 2 million brothers for months, killed children, and destroyed hospitals. They cowardly murdered doctors, healthcare workers, and journalists. They could not make our brothers in Gaza kneel.
One of the greatest genocides of the last century took place before the eyes of the whole world for 467 days. Despite everything that has happened, the Palestinian people could not be subdued, nor did they give up. We know very well that Netanyahu has a long record of ceasefire violations. This time, it should not be allowed. Everyone must do their part to prevent a return to the old ways in Gaza. As Turkey, we will mobilize all our resources to heal the bleeding wounds of Gaza during the ceasefire period. Our struggle for accountability from those who commit war crimes will continue to grow.
"OUR PLACE IS BY THE SIDE OF THE OPPRESSED"
From here, I greet our brothers in Gaza once again with affection. Our support and prayers will be with our Palestinian brothers. We have referred to our own beliefs, culture, and civilization codes, not what the West or imperialist powers say. What does Europe say to us? What does the USA say to us? We did not listen to any of them; we said our place is by the side of the oppressed.
We have not forgotten, nor will we forget, those who have become puppets of Turkey's enemies in a national issue. The concerns of those who do this have never been about Palestine or the innocent people of Gaza. They only did politics and exploited the innocent. Undoubtedly, history is the greatest judge. Time reveals who is right and who is wrong. In the future, it will be better understood how Turkey displayed a courageous stance.
While we are pursuing a comprehensive strategy, calculated at every stage, both domestically and abroad, you can see the stance of the main opposition. We are looking for a bit of seriousness and dignity, but we cannot even find that. Are they doing politics, or are they playing games in an amusement park? For those who can understand, love is in the details."
