In the case against court clerk Ayşe S., who embezzled approximately 6.5 million lira from enforcement and treasury accounts at the courthouse where she worked in Konya's Kulu district, a verdict has been issued. The court applied a good conduct reduction to the defendant and sentenced her to 13 years, 10 months, and 20 days in prison.

The trial has been completed in the million-lira embezzlement case that came to light at a courthouse in Konya. It drew attention where the female court clerk who transferred approximately 6.5 million lira into her own account spent the money and how the incident came to light.

SHE TRANSFERRED 6.5 MILLION LIRA FROM THE COURTHOUSE'S ACCOUNTS

Ayşe S., who worked as a court clerk at Kulu Courthouse in the Kulu district of Konya, began transferring money from enforcement and treasury accounts to her own account from the beginning of 2024. She embezzled approximately 6.5 million lira in pieces from money deposited on behalf of the treasury through enforcement proceedings and the National Estate. As a result of irregular transactions that continued for a long time, millions of lira in public resources came under the defendant's control. The purpose for which the female official used the money emerged from the statement she gave during the trial.

SHE LOST ALL THE MONEY IN BETTING

Ayşe S., who admitted spending the money she embezzled on betting sites, made striking statements in her defense in court. The defendant, stating that she did not need money, explained that she used the transferred money through her mother's mobile banking account. Ayşe S. said she thought her transactions would one day come to light and that she told her husband what happened. The defendant's statement in court revealed how the embezzlement incident developed and where millions of lira went.

HER OWN HUSBAND REPORTED IT

When the female court clerk realized that her irregularities would come to light, she told her husband about the situation. Her husband, in turn, reported what he learned to the competent authorities. Upon the report, teams took action and detained Ayşe S. on December 2, 2025. After procedures at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse and was arrested by the magistrate and sent to prison. Thus, the million-lira embezzlement incident, which was stated to have continued since the beginning of 2024, was brought to the judicial authorities after the defendant's confession to her husband.

"I DID NOT NEED THE MONEY"

Ayşe S., who was tried in detention at the Konya 2nd High Criminal Court, admitted her guilt at the hearing and recounted what she had experienced. The defendant, stating that she lost the money she embezzled by placing bets, said she regretted it and would try to compensate for the damage caused. Ayşe S. used the following statements in her defense: "I spent the money I took by betting. I transferred the money to my mother's mobile banking account. I did not need the money. Because I thought it would come out one day anyway, I told my husband about the situation. My husband also reported the situation to the competent authorities. I felt remorse for what I did and attempted suicide. I will try to compensate for the damage caused by selling the properties left from the inheritance."
