Pro-Hadi Vigilantes Kill 6 Houthis İn Yemen's Aden

Armed vigilantes loyal to embattled President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi killed six Houthi militants in an ambush in Yemen's southern city of Aden, eyewitnesses have said.

Armed vigilantes loyal to embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi killed six Houthi militants in an ambush in Yemen's southern city of Aden, eyewitnesses have said.

A group of Houthi militants had been heading to Mansoura city in the Aden province when they came under fire from vigilantes, witnesses told The Anadolu Agency.

Six Houthis were killed and a number of others injured, they added, without saying whether there had been any casualties among the vigilantes.

Earlier Friday, security sources and eyewitnesses in Aden told AA that Saudi-led coalition warplanes had staged a dawn strike on Aden's presidential palace, prompting Houthi forces to retreat hours after having captured the site.

Hadi fled to Aden in February from Houthi-held Sanaa in hopes of reinstating his embattled presidency from the southern city.

However, the Gulf-backed president ended up fleeing to Saudi capital Riyadh late last month after Houthi militants struck his Aden residence.

For the past ten days, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have been pounding Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says its anti-Houthi campaign comes in response to Hadi's appeals to "save the [Yemeni] people from the Houthi militias."

The United States, for its part, is providing logistical and intelligence support to the ongoing anti-Houthi offensive.

The Houthis, for their part, consider the "Saudi-American onslaught" a "blatant violation of Yemeni territory."

Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have since sought to extend their influence to other parts of the fractious country.

Some Gulf States accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
