The Ministry of Trade has amended the regulation on jewelry trade, introducing new rules for the sale of precious stones produced in laboratory settings or artificially created. Accordingly, it has become mandatory to clearly indicate that such products are synthetic, and sellers will be required to use at least one of the terms 'synthetic', 'laboratory-grown', 'artificially produced', or similar expressions deemed appropriate by the ministry.

The new regulation prepared by the Ministry of Trade was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force. Accordingly, it has become mandatory to clearly inform consumers about the sale of precious stones produced in laboratory environments.

SYNTHETIC STONES WILL NOW BE CLEARLY STATED

With the regulation change made by the Ministry of Trade for the jewelry sector, new rules have been introduced regarding the sale of precious stones produced in laboratory environments or created through human intervention.

According to the new regulation, these products cannot be offered for sale without using at least one of the terms "synthetic", "laboratory-grown", "artificial", or similar expressions deemed appropriate by the ministry.

CONSUMERS WILL DISTINGUISH MORE EASILY

The said expressions must be placed on product labels, certificates, invoices, websites, and advertising and promotional materials in a way that consumers can easily see.

The regulation aims to enable consumers to distinguish natural precious stones from those produced in laboratory environments more easily.

SALES AREAS WILL ALSO BE SEPARATED

Within the scope of the regulation change, it has been made mandatory to separate synthetic and natural precious stones in sales areas. Accordingly, products will be displayed in different showcases and sections in stores.

In online sales, synthetic stones and natural stones will be offered for sale under separate categories.

PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE AND ENTERED INTO FORCE

The regulation published in the Official Gazette took effect as of its publication date, while the Ministry of Trade will be responsible for monitoring and enforcement of the implementation.
