The Ministry of Foreign Affairs used the expression, 'The allegations put forward by the Greek Cypriot side distort historical facts and politicize them,' regarding the proposal to allocate resources in the European Parliament for a so-called monument to be built by the Greek Cypriot Administration with the aim of slandering the Turkish Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a written statement regarding the "slanders" brought up in the European Parliament.
In the statement, it was noted that in the opinion issued by the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality regarding the 2027 EU budget, it was learned that it was also recommended to allocate resources for a so-called monument to be built by the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) with the aim of slandering the Turkish Armed Forces.
"ALLEGATIONS PUT FORWARD BY THE GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE DISTORT HISTORICAL FACTS"
In the statement, which noted that the Turkish Armed Forces, through the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, prevented the annihilation of the Turkish Cypriot people and brought peace to the entire island for over half a century, the following expressions were used: "The allegations put forward by the Greek Cypriot side distort and politicize historical facts. The fact that EU institutions, instead of contributing to the resolution of the Cyprus issue, stray from the principles of impartiality and justice and become a tool of the Greek Cypriot propaganda further damages trust between communities. We call on EU officials not to become instruments of circles that aim to distance Türkiye from the EU with every step they take."
