US President Donald Trump expressed support for the news that Syria could become an alternative energy and trade route to the Strait of Hormuz, saying, "That's great." Trump, in a post on his social media account, quoted an analysis article written in the Washington Post (WP) newspaper.
Trump used the phrase "That's great" for the news reporting that the Damascus administration, led by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, presents itself as a "relatively stable" route that provides a land corridor for energy and goods transport and serves as an "alternative to the Strait of Hormuz."
The news, which interpreted US and Israeli attacks on Iran disrupting traffic in the Strait of Hormuz as a "blessing" for Damascus, also included the assessment that Syria aims to become the center of the Middle East.
The article also referenced the oil pipeline project between Iraq and Syria, announced to begin reconstruction on July 18.
IRAQ AND SYRIA SIGNED IN WASHINGTON
Iraq and Syria had signed a memorandum of understanding in Washington, the US capital, on July 18, providing for the reconstruction and reactivation of the crude oil pipeline between the two countries.
Tom Barrack, the US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria and Iraq, who spoke at the ceremony, also stated that the agreements regarding the oil pipeline would pave the way for a process that would render the Strait of Hormuz "secondary" in terms of energy supply.
