It has been revealed that the Oman-flagged crude oil tanker named "QENDIL," which ran aground due to a southwesterly storm off the coast of Bozcaada, was targeted by a drone operated by Ukraine in the Mediterranean days before the incident. An investigation is underway to determine whether the damage the 249-meter-long tanker sustained in the past is related to the accident.
It has been revealed that the Oman-flagged oil tanker named "QENDIL," which ran aground due to a southwesterly storm off the coast of Bozcaada, was previously hit by a drone (UAV) operated by Ukraine in the Mediterranean.
The empty oil tanker, 249 meters long, which was en route from Aliağa to Yalova, lost control and ran aground off the coast of Bozcaada due to adverse weather conditions. Investigations conducted after the incident uncovered a striking detail about the tanker’s past.
TARGETED ON DECEMBER 19
It has been determined that the QENDIL tanker, which is claimed to belong to Russia, was struck by a UAV attack from Ukrainian forces in the Mediterranean on December 19, 2025. After the attack, the tanker continued its voyage.
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED
Authorities have initiated a technical investigation to clarify whether the tanker ran aground directly due to the storm or in connection with damage it had previously sustained. While security measures in the area have been increased, maritime traffic is being maintained in a controlled manner.
