News presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci denied the claim that a photo of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, allegedly taken in a drug-using environment, was found on her phone. Stating that her phone is under examination, Cebeci said, "The claim is not true. There is no photo of Mehmet Akif Ersoy on my phone."
Journalist İsmail Saymaz, in a statement based on a legal source, claimed that a photo taken in an environment where drugs were used, featuring journalist Mehmet Akif Ersoy, came from the phone of Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, who was arrested in a drug operation.
Following the public disclosure of these allegations, Ela Rümeysa Cebeci stated, "The claim you mentioned is not true. I do not have a photo of Mehmet Akif Ersoy on my phone. Therefore, the information you presented in the broadcast is false. I only spoke briefly with Mehmet Akif Ersoy once in a social event attended by all channel employees. Other than that, I have not had any meetings, gatherings, or social activities outside of work."
SHE HANDED OVER HER PHONE VOLUNTARILY
Cebeci announced that her phone was taken for examination and that she voluntarily provided the password to the police to expedite the process. In her statement, Cebeci also addressed her lifestyle, stating that she leads a regular and disciplined life, saying, "My phone is being examined. Because I have nothing to hide. When the slander is cleared, I will go live with my report."
SAYMAZ: THE INFORMATION CAME FROM A LAWYER
The allegation was brought to light by journalist İsmail Saymaz. Saymaz stated during a broadcast on Halk TV that he received information about a photo on Cebeci's phone, which allegedly included Mehmet Akif Ersoy in an environment where drugs were used, and that this information was conveyed to him by a lawyer. Later, Saymaz shared the message Cebeci sent him with the public.
DETained AND RELEASED
Ela Rümeysa Cebeci was detained on December 5 as part of an investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was released after giving her statement at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command.
