Due to rising reactions on social media, British pop star Robbie Williams, who canceled his concert scheduled for October 7 last year in Istanbul, made history by breaking The Beatles' record. With his 16th number one album 'Britpop', Williams surpassed The Beatles in the UK to become the solo artist with the most number one albums.
British pop star Robbie Williams has surpassed The Beatles by earning the title of the artist with the most number one albums in British music history. According to a report by the BBC, Williams' album titled 'Britpop', released on January 16, became his 16th number one album in his solo career that began in 1997.
THE FORREST GUMP OF MUSIC
Speaking about his success, Williams said, "This is absolutely incredible. I feel like the Forrest Gump of pop music." Regarding his celebration plans, the famous singer stated, "I will celebrate my success by drinking soda and eating salad." During this period, Williams is on vacation in Paris with his wife Ayla Field.
ISTANBUL CONCERT WAS CANCELED
On the other hand, Robbie Williams' concert, which was expected to take place on October 7 at Ataköy Marina, was canceled due to growing reactions on social media and security concerns. The concert coincided with the start date of the Israel-Palestine war, and comments made by Williams during a previous concert in Israel had drawn backlash, with some expressing on social media, "We do not want this concert that coincides with the day the genocidal Israel attacks Gaza!"
The 51-year-old artist used the following statements in his Instagram post to his 3.7 million followers:
"The last thing I would want to do is put my fans' safety at risk — their safety and security come first.
We were very excited to be performing in Istanbul for the first time, and we specifically chose this city as the final concert of the Britpop tour.
Considering my family's close ties to this wonderful country, it was a dream for me to end this unforgettable tour in front of my Turkish fans.
I sincerely apologize to everyone in Istanbul who wanted to join the 1.2 million people who shared this extraordinary tour with us this year. We were looking forward to this concert, but the cancellation decision was beyond our control."
