The Hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship, which has alarmed the World Health Organization, has also become a topic of discussion in Turkey. YouTuber Ruhi Çenet, who was found to have traveled on the ship for 24 days, announced that he has placed himself in quarantine. However, Çenet's attendance at a village wedding five days ago sparked widespread backlash.
Hantavirus cases that emerged on the MV Hondius cruise ship, registered in the Netherlands and departing from Argentina, caused global concern. After three people traveling on the ship lost their lives, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued an emergency notification to 12 countries, including Turkey. As of May 6th, a total of eight confirmed and suspected cases were reported on the ship.
RUHI CENET STAYED ON THE SHIP FOR 24 DAYS
It was reported that famous content creator Ruhi Cenet, who was found to have traveled on the ship for 24 days, is under close monitoring due to the outbreak. Commenting on the matter, Cenet said that initially they thought a death during the trip was due to adverse weather conditions, but later realized the situation was much more serious.
"I WILL CALL AN AMBULANCE AT THE SLIGHTEST SYMPTOM"
Speaking to the New York Times, Ruhi Cenet announced that he has placed himself in quarantine. Cenet described his experience with the following words:
"I am currently monitoring myself at home. I am absolutely forbidden from mixing with the public for a few weeks. I am in constant contact with health teams. The moment I feel even the slightest fever or fatigue, I am ready to put on my mask and call an ambulance. Surviving this ship was a miracle, but the risk is not completely over yet."
WEDDING FOOTAGE SPARKS CONTROVERSY
Following all these developments, it emerged that Ruhi Cenet attended a wedding in Catalca, Istanbul five days ago. While a photo shared by neighborhood headman Nazan Kurtan on social media quickly became a topic of debate, many users on social media reacted to the situation. Users criticized Cenet for attending the wedding despite the risk of carrying the virus.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned the global public about the risk of new cases emerging, stating that the incubation period of the "Andes" type Hantavirus can extend up to 6 weeks.
HAD ALSO GONE TO CHINA DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PERIOD
Ruhi Cenet's name had previously been in the spotlight with similar controversies during the pandemic. In 2020, the famous YouTuber had gone to China in the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak and filmed in quarantine zones.
Having faced criticism back then for "risking public health" and "taking risks for views," comments on social media said "history repeats itself" regarding Cenet.
