British television comedian and actor Russell Brand has denied charges of rape and sexual assault against two different women in a hearing today. The 49-year-old Brand, who arrived at court with a prayer book in hand, is facing serious allegations.

ALLEGATIONS REGARDING EVENTS BETWEEN 1999 AND 2005

In a brief hearing at Southwark Crown Court today, Brand formally denied five sexual offense charges against him for the first time. Earlier this month, the 49-year-old Brand appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he listened to the details of the charges against him. According to the prosecution, the alleged offenses are said to have been committed against four different women between 1999 and 2005. The indictment against Brand includes one count of rape, one count of oral rape, one count of indecent assault, and two separate counts of sexual assault. It has been reported that the defendant resides in the village of Hambleden in Buckinghamshire and will begin trial at the same court on June 3, 2025. Brand will be released on bail until the trial date.

ALLEGATIONS CAME TO LIGHT THROUGH MEDIA INVESTIGATION

The investigation into Brand was prompted by a joint journalism effort conducted by Channel 4 and the Sunday Times. In the investigation, multiple women alleged that Brand had sexually abused them in the past. Following the allegations, Brand addressed his 11.2 million followers on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that he is "not a rapist" and welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence.

Rising to fame in the 2000s, Brand appeared in Hollywood productions such as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek." During the same period, he hosted television programs like Big Brother's Big Mouth and Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack, and from 2006 to 2008, he had a radio show on BBC Radio 2.
