Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reacted to the decisions taken by Germany against Moscow due to the drone found at Leipzig-Halle Airport. Criticizing the closure of Russia's Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin, Lavrov argued that it was accepted without investigation that the drone belonged to Russia. Emphasizing that Germany has not learned lessons from its history, Lavrov said, “This is actually the beginning of a real war,” accusing Berlin of wanting war.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking to the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), assessed Germany's approach towards Russia.
"THIS IS, IN FACT, THE BEGINNING OF A REAL WAR" Recalling that Germany made decisions against Russia last week, citing the discovery of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at Leipzig-Halle Airport, Lavrov drew attention to the fact that these decisions included the closure of Russia's Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin.
Lavrov continued: "They (the Germans) found a UAV and reported that it belonged to Russia. No one investigated the truth of the matter. This is, in fact, the beginning of a real war. I remember that the Germans also closed their diplomatic missions before the Second World War. This is absolutely unacceptable. They want war again."
Minister Lavrov emphasized that Germany has not learned from its history.
Sergey Lavrov WHAT HAPPENED? On August 4, a UAV assessed to contain an explosive device was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany.
US intelligence claimed that the characteristics of the explosive-laden UAV found were 'specific' to Russian military intelligence.
On September 1, the German government, stating that the findings from the investigation into the incident pointed to Russia's responsibility, announced a series of measures.
In accordance with the decision, Russia's Consulate General in Bonn will be closed as of September 18, the contract regarding the Russian House in Berlin will be terminated, entry controls for Russian citizens will be tightened, and pressure on Russia's so-called shadow fleet will be increased.
