Former AK Party Kocaeli Deputy and former AK Party Headquarters Women's Branch Chairperson Azize Sibel Gönül passed away at the hospital where she was receiving treatment. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a condolence message for Gönül. Erdogan stated, 'I pray for God's mercy for my precious comrade and companion on our path, Azize Sibel Gönül, and I extend my condolences to her family, loved ones, and the entire AK Party organization. May her place be paradise.'
Azize Sibel Gönül, former AK Party Kocaeli Deputy and previous Chairwoman of the AK Party Headquarters Women's Branch, has passed away at the hospital where she was receiving treatment.
SHE HAD BEEN UNDERGOING TREATMENT FOR SOME TIME
Gönül, who had been receiving cancer treatment for some time, passed away at the hospital in Istanbul where she was being treated. Gönül's funeral will be held today at Izmit Fevziye Mosque after the afternoon prayer, and she will be laid to rest at Izmit City Cemetery.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shared a condolence message for Azize Sibel Gönül on his social media account. Erdogan said in his message:
"I pray for God's mercy for Azize Sibel Gönül Hanımefendi, the former Chairwoman of our Party's Headquarters Women's Branch, our Kocaeli Deputy of the 23rd and 24th Terms, and my dear comrade in cause and journey; I extend my condolences to her family, loved ones, and the entire AK Party organization. May her place be paradise."

AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Omer Celik, expressing that they are deeply saddened in his condolence message shared on his social media account, said:
"We have lost our very valuable comrade Azize Sibel Gönül, one of our Headquarters Women's Branch Presidents and a deputy from previous terms. We pray for God's mercy for the deceased, and extend our condolences and patience to her grieving family, loved ones, and our entire community."
WHO IS AZIZE SIBEL GÖNÜL?
Azize Sibel Gönül was born on August 12, 1966, in Istanbul. Gönül, who graduated from Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture, worked as a freelance architect. Serving as the Secretary General of the Kocaeli Chamber of Architects of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Gönül served as a member of the Kocaeli Founding Provincial Administrative Board and the Provincial Women's Branch Chairwoman during the establishment of the AK Party in 2001.
Gönül also served as the Provincial Secretary of the AK Party Kocaeli Provincial Administration between 2003 and 2007. Elected as the Kocaeli Deputy in the 23rd Term, Gönül continued her duty in parliament in the 24th Term, serving as the Chairwoman of the TBMM (Turkish Grand National Assembly) Committee on Equality of Opportunity for Women and Men.
Gönül later served as the Chairwoman of the AK Party Headquarters Women's Branch. Fluent in English, Gönül was married and the mother of 2 children.
