In Antalya, the lifeless body of German Friederike Elisabeth Newrzella (33), who went missing while hiking on the Kaş-Demre section of the Lycian Way on October 14, has been found. The female tourist's body was found in a rocky area outside the hiking route.
When no news could be received from German tourist Friederike Elisabeth Newrzella, who was hiking on the section of the Lycian Way between the Kaş and Demre districts, on October 14, a missing person report was filed. Her relatives also requested in their social media posts that Newrzella be found. Gendarmerie and AFAD teams launched efforts to find Newrzella. In the work, which also included AKUT's Kaş-Kalkan team, the Lycian Way route and the surrounding terrain were searched.
FOUND IN A ROCKY AREA AFTER 16 DAYS
As a result of the searches, the lifeless body of Friederike Elisabeth Newrzella was found in a rocky area outside the hiking route, near the Üçağız neighborhood of Kaş, 700-800 meters from the sea. Demre District Governor Emin Bağlı announced that the ID found on the body belonged to Friederike Elisabeth Newrzella, that her family had been notified, but that the identity would be confirmed after autopsy procedures were carried out. Bağlı stated that a judicial investigation into the cause of death was ongoing.
SHE MAY HAVE FOLLOWED BUSINESSES' DIRECTIONAL ARROWS
It is being considered that Newrzella may have left the marked Lycian Way route and headed onto a different trail. It is emphasized that there are directional arrows and markings in the area used by some businesses to provide access to their own facilities, and that the tourist may have followed these signs. In the area, where weather conditions were also unfavorable, the possibility that the German tourist may have fallen from the rocky area is being evaluated.
