In Zonguldak, it was revealed that Obstetrician Dr. Ferhat T., who demanded money from women seeking abortions, requested between 10,000 and 80,000 Turkish lira from those wanting legal-term abortions and 100,000 lira for illegal-term procedures. During simultaneous operations, Ferhat T. was caught with a large amount of money at the hospital where he worked, while 11 people, including 3 women, were referred to court after being detained.

An investigation has been launched on allegations that Ferhat T., a gynecologist at Zonguldak Maternity and Children's Hospital, demanded money from women seeking abortions and performed the procedure for those who paid. 

FOLLOWED FOR 4 MONTHS, DOCTOR AND 20 OTHERS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

In the investigation initiated in Bartın, Düzce, and Karabük, centered in Zonguldak, technical and physical surveillance was conducted for 4 months. On June 16, in an operation carried out by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch Directorate, gynecologist Ferhat T., who works at Zonguldak Maternity and Children's Hospital, and 20 people, including his secretary and 11 women, were taken into custody.

PERFORMED ABORTIONS BEYOND THE LEGAL TERM

While Ferhat T. is accused of demanding money and performing abortions, it is also alleged that he performed abortions on some women beyond the legal term. It was stated that the 6 men taken into custody committed the crime of 'giving bribes' by paying the amount demanded for the abortion. It was reported that Ferhat T. performed the abortion procedures at the hospital where he works, after taking bribes. In the investigation, 8 women and 1 male suspect, who were referred to the courthouse on June 17, were released after their statements to the prosecutor.

CAUGHT WITH MONEY AT THE HOSPITAL

With the referral of 11 suspects, including 3 women, whose police procedures were completed, to the courthouse, the details of the investigation also emerged. It was stated that in the simultaneous operations on June 16, Ferhat T. was caught with a large amount of money at the hospital where he works. It was reported that Ferhat T. harmed the institution he works for by performing medical procedures by demanding money from his patients, creating false patient records, prescribing 'contraceptive pills' that patients would not need, and terminating the pregnancies of many women through other diagnoses in extramarital affairs. It was alleged that Ferhat T., who is claimed to have performed abortions on pregnant women at 4 and 5.5 months beyond the legal term in exchange for 100 thousand lira, also demanded between 10 and 80 thousand lira from those seeking abortions within the legal term.

SUSPECTS AT THE COURTHOUSE

A.S. (28) and K.S. (30), who are alleged to have had abortions beyond the legal term in exchange for money, along with doctor Ferhat T. (60), his secretary F.U. (53), and those alleged to have given bribes for abortions, A.E.A. (21), C.A. (51), S.K. (28), S.T. (24), O.E. (33), H.E. (63), and Ö.F.U. (26), were brought to the Zonguldak Courthouse this morning. The suspects' proceedings at the prosecutor's office are ongoing.
