A case involving 47 defendants, who are alleged to have transferred numerous babies to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon, resulting in their deaths and unjust profits, continues on its 13th day as the investigation has entered a new phase. SECOND WAVE OPERATION IN THE NEONATAL INVESTIGATIONFollowing the emergence of new evidence, 14 more suspects were taken into custody. It was learned that among those detained in the simultaneous operation, 5 were doctors, 3 were nurses, 5 were healthcare workers, and 1 was a civilian. "I HAVE BEEN IN CUSTODY FOR 8 MONTHS, I REQUEST MY RELEASE"During the hearing held in the conference hall of the courthouse by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, after the public prosecutor presented their opinion, the defendants were asked if they had anything to say regarding their requests to join the proceedings. Defendant Murat Mantuş, who was abroad when the investigation was initiated, stated that he came to Turkey voluntarily and argued against the request for his arrest, claiming there was no flight risk. Detained defendant Fehmi Alperen stated, "People accused of the same crime as me are being tried without detention, but I have been in custody for 8 months. I request my release." DEFENSES OF THE DEFENDANTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETEDDetained defendant Tuğçe Toptemel argued that she was present because she intervened with the baby, saying, "I did everything I could. The baby did not die in my care. I want this to be investigated. I request my release." Meanwhile, the defenses of 22 detained and 25 non-detained defendants, as well as the statements of the complainants, have been completed within the scope of the case.
