After the meteorological warnings, a storm hit Istanbul. Due to the southwesterly winds, huge waves formed at sea, and all ferry services in the megacity were canceled until further notice.
After the warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, a severe storm has been affecting Istanbul since the morning hours. Due to the strong winds, which particularly negatively impact maritime transportation, all ferry services in the megacity have been canceled.
ALL FERRY SERVICES HAVE BEEN CANCELED
In a statement made on the website of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's subsidiary, Şehir Hatları AŞ, it was stated, "All our services will not be operated until further notice due to unfavorable weather conditions."
On the IDO website, it was reported that services had to be canceled due to weather conditions.
TELEFERIC SERVICES ALSO DISRUPTED
According to a statement shared on Metro Istanbul's social media account, services on the TF1 Maçka-Taşkışla and TF2 Eyüp-Piyer Loti cable car lines could not be operated due to adverse weather conditions.
GIANT WAVES AT SEA
As the storm intensified in the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, giant waves formed on the Zeytinburnu and Beşiktaş coasts. The waves occasionally covered the shoreline. At times, difficult moments were experienced as the waves crashed onto the shore.
Some citizens on the beach did not pay attention to the storm. Some got wet as the waves suddenly rose while trying to take photos.
THE ROOF OF A 4-STORY BUILDING FLEW AWAY
In the Taşocağı Street of the Airport Neighborhood in the Esenler district of Istanbul, the roof of a 4-story building that could not withstand the storm was torn off and flew away. The flying roof pieces fell on two parked cars. At that moment, a woman walking on the sidewalk narrowly escaped being hit by the roof pieces. Satellite dishes that were also torn off with the roof were blown onto the sidewalk by the storm. While damage occurred to the vehicles, it was reported that there were no fatalities or injuries. Upon notification, health and fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Security measures were taken in the area, and an investigation was initiated regarding the incident.
