After the arrest in the USA of fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was wanted via a red notice as part of the Gülistan Doku investigation, fugitive businessman Sezgin Baran Korkmaz made a striking post on his social media account. Stating that he sent the first lawyer to Altaş, Korkmaz said, "He doesn't accept any other lawyer. Tell the governor not to send anyone in vain! Umut will explain everything here and then accept Turkey's extradition request."

Following the detention in the USA of Umut Altaş, who was wanted via a red notice in the investigation into university student Gülistan Doku, who disappeared in 2020 and was never heard from again, fugitive businessman Sezgin Baran Korkmaz made a social media post that will be widely discussed. Korkmaz announced that he was the first to send a lawyer to Altaş, who was in a police station in the USA.

"UMUT WILL TELL EVERYTHING"

Fugitive Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, who is under investigation on charges of "money laundering", made the following post on his social media account after Umut Altaş was caught in the USA and made a statement saying "I have evidence, I will give the killer":

"Let your hearts be at ease, I sent the first lawyer, he does not accept any other lawyer. Tell the governor not to send anyone in vain! Umut will tell everything here, then he will accept Turkey's extradition request."

THE CODES OF THE MESSAGE

The person Korkmaz pointed to in his message by saying "Don't send anyone in vain" is Tuncay Sonel, who was the governor of Tunceli at the time of the incident.

Umut Altaş had previously claimed that Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, confessed the murder to him. Altaş alleged that Türkay Sonel told him the story by saying, "He was shouting a lot, so I just fired."

Within the scope of the investigation, former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel was suspended and taken into custody in April 2026. Sonel was arrested and sent to prison on charges of "concealing evidence of a crime" following the investigation.

Sonel's son, Mustafa Türkay Sonel, had also been arrested on charges of "qualified homicide" and "non-consensual sexual assault."
