In Hakkari Yüksekova, the water accumulation caused by rainfall and snowmelt negatively affects life, while a father stated that he has had to carry his children on his back to school for about a month, calling on the municipality to resolve the infrastructure issue.
As a result of the heavy rainfall and melting snow in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, some areas in the Yeni Mahalle neighborhood have been flooded. Cengiz Dilce, a resident of the neighborhood, stated that he has been carrying his 2 children on his back every day for about a month due to the water accumulation in front of his house.
Due to the heavy rainfall and melting snow in the district, water accumulations have formed in areas where the infrastructure is inadequate. Especially in Yeni Mahalle, many houses are flooded in front, making it difficult for some people to leave their homes. Cengiz Dilce, one of the residents of the neighborhood, mentioned that they have been experiencing the same problem for about 30-40 days, stating that the children have difficulty going to and from school.
"TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THEM TO SCHOOL..."
Dilce said, "The water accumulated in front of my house has turned into a pond. I carry my children on my back every day in the morning and evening to ensure they do not fall behind in their education. I have to walk through the water for about 100 meters," he stated.
"MY DAD CARRIES US"
5th-grade student Hira Nur Dilce said, "I have been going to school on my dad's back for about a month. Since we cannot pass through the dirty water accumulated in front of our house, my dad carries us. We go to school in the morning and return home in the same way in the evening," she said.
CALL TO AUTHORITIES
The residents are calling for the problem to be resolved as soon as possible and are requesting permanent infrastructure work from the authorities.
