The President of the Association of Families Fighting Addiction (BASADER), Nejla Sivaşan, visited Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as the trustee of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency. During the meeting, Sivaşan explained the work the association is doing in the fight against addiction. Emphasizing that drugs are one of Turkey's biggest problems, Sivaşan stated, "Drugs are destroying our youth and their families. Our greatest rebellion is the lack of a solution to this issue. If this problem is ignored, this fire will burn everyone," she said.
A MOTHER'S HEART-WRENCHING CRY
During the meeting, a mother spoke about her experiences after her child became a drug addict with the following words:
"They release my child because there was no drug in his blood. My child is back on the streets. The police took him away, but they released him because there was nothing in his blood. Now my child is an enemy to me. I went and got a protection order because he will harm me. I can't bring my child home; I can't trust him. We are dying every day."
"I DON'T KNOW WHO MY DAUGHTER'S FATHER IS"
Another father expressed that his daughter is a drug addict and that despite giving birth, the father of the child is unknown. The father, who stated that they could not get support from social services, shared his helplessness with the words, "My daughter is an addict, she just gave birth, but the father is unknown. We went to social services, and they said, 'We can't do anything for your daughter.'"
3 ADDICTS IN THE SAME HOUSE
Another relative of an addict mentioned that her husband, daughter, and son are all addicts, but none of them accept it. Gürsel Tekin, who listened to the situation, reacted by saying, "Oh dear," and promised support to the families.
