The unforgettable leading man of Yeşilçam, Engin Çağlar, whose real name was Ali Çağlan Övet, lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Şişli. The funeral of the 85-year-old artist will be held tomorrow after the prayer at Şişli Central Mosque, and he will be laid to rest at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
In a traffic accident that occurred in Şişli, Istanbul, Ali Çağlan Övet (85), known as Engin Çağlar, one of the unforgettable actors of Yeşilçam, lost his life as a result of a motorcycle collision.
THE ACCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON CAMERA
The incident took place yesterday evening on Abide-i Hürriyet Street. A motorcycle with the license plate 34 HSP 349, driven by B.O. (21), hit Ali Çağlan Övet, who was trying to cross the road. The veteran actor fell to the ground due to the impact and was seriously injured. The motorcycle, spinning out of control, collided with a commercial taxi with the license plate 34 TAZ 10, driven by U.D., before coming to a stop.
Övet, who was injured in the head and foot, was taken to the hospital by health teams. The motorcycle driver B.O., who was slightly injured, received treatment on-site and was taken into custody by the police. However, despite all interventions, the master artist Ali Çağlan Övet, also known as Engin Çağlar, could not be saved.

It was revealed that the actor, who was known as Engin Çağlar in Turkish cinema for many years, had the name Ali Çağlan Övet in the population registry. The art community was shocked to learn this information after his death. The veteran actor, who played in countless films since the 1960s in Yeşilçam, had etched his name in cinema history under the pseudonym "Engin Çağlar."
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND TOURISM
As the moment of the accident was captured by security cameras, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism shared the following message on their social media account: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Engin Çağlar, one of the unforgettable names of Yeşilçam. We wish God's mercy upon the master actor, who made valuable contributions to Turkish cinema with the characters he portrayed, and we extend our condolences to his family, loved ones, and the cinema community."
The Film Industry and All Artists Empowerment Foundation (Film-San) also announced that Engin Çağlar, who was one of the founding members of the foundation, lost his life in a traffic accident.
HE WAS THE HANDSOME LEADING MAN OF YEŞİLÇAM
Born in 1940 in Istanbul, Ali Çağlan Övet studied interior architecture in Germany after his education at Şişli Terakki High School and Robert College. The artist, who stepped into cinema by placing second in the artist competition of Ses Magazine, first acted in the film "Öksüz" alongside Fatma Girik.
Övet, who played leading roles in unforgettable films such as "Kınalı Yapıncak," "Feride," "Makber," "Tatlı Dillim," "Yalnız Adam," and "Rüyalar Gerçek Olsa," shared the set with names like Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, Emel Sayın, and Neşe Karaböcek.
HE WILL BE FAREWELLED TO HIS LAST JOURNEY
The funeral of the master actor will be buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery after the prayer to be held at Şişli Merkez Mosque tomorrow at noon.
