In the debate program broadcast on TV100 channels, the polemic around media, politics, and elitism marked the night. Journalist Sinan Burhan's outburst targeting the old media order, saying "The era of greeting prime ministers in shorts and setting the agenda for politics is over," sparked a debate in the studio.
The relationship between politics and the media, stretching from past to present, flared up again on the debate program broadcast on TV100 screens. In the program featuring journalists Sinan Burhan, Barış Yarkadaş, and Aytunç Erkin, a heated polemic took place over Turkey's sociological structure and the media's influence on politics.
RESPONSE TO THE STATEMENT "AK PARTY CREATED ITS OWN BOURGEOISIE"
In the later minutes of the program, Aytunç Erkin's criticism of the government's sociological policies, with the phrase "AK Party created its own bourgeoisie," caused tension to rise in the studio. Objecting to this comment, Sinan Burhan took the floor and made very harsh criticisms of the old media and political order in Turkey.
"THE MEDIA ORDER THAT WELCOMED THE PRIME MINISTER IN SHORTS IS OVER"
Targeting the media moguls of old Turkey and the prominent journalists of that era, Sinan Burhan argued that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had destroyed this hegemony. Expressing that the political anger towards Erdoğan stems from this change, Burhan delivered the following remarks that marked the night:
"Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ended the media order represented by Ertuğrul Özkök and Uğur Dündar. The media order that welcomed the prime minister in shorts, looked down on the nation, sipped their drink on the Bosphorus, and set the tone for politics is over. Erdoğan opened up space for the people of Anatolia, the peasant, and the sandal-wearer. One of the fundamental reasons for the anger towards Erdoğan is this."
Burhan's outburst, in the vein of 'That era is over, gentlemen,' sparked a wide-ranging debate both among the other guests in the studio and on social media.
