A new operation has been carried out in the drug investigation into celebrities conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Singer Mabel Matiz was detained as part of the operation, and it was learned that detention warrants were issued for 24 more people.
Drug operations targeting celebrities continue. Within the scope of the prohibited substance investigation initiated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against celebrities, Mabel Matiz was taken into custody.
STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following expressions: "In the fight against drugs that threaten public health and safety, within the investigations carried out by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, through operations recently conducted by our law enforcement forces and reflected in the public, on one hand, a large amount of cocaine intended to be brought into our country from abroad by sea was seized before reaching land; on the other hand, drug manufacturing sites were identified, many drug dealers in different districts of Istanbul were arrested, and the seized drugs and other criminal items were confiscated.
"DETENTION ORDER FOR 25 SUSPECTS"
In another investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office targeting not only suspects involved in drug trafficking and manufacturing but also individuals who facilitate drug use, provide venues, and use drugs, within the framework of the evidence obtained, instructions were given to the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command on 21/05/2026 for the detention, search, biological examination, and taking of statements of 25 suspects."
ACQUITTAL DECISION HAD BEEN MADE FOR MABEL MATIZ
In the case filed against singer Mabel Matiz, who was tried on charges of obscenity due to his song named "Perperişan," an acquittal decision was made on the grounds that the legal elements of the crime were not established.
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?
Individuals taken into custody in drug operations are first subjected to a health check at the hospital. These individuals are then taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for drug testing. After being taken into custody, they are then taken to the courthouse for testimony before the prosecutor.
The prosecutor's request regarding the suspects is made at this stage. Based on the request, these individuals are either released or referred to court.
OPERATION AGAINST CELEBRITIES STARTED IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR
In the drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against celebrities, many operations have been carried out since October 8, 2025. Musicians, managers, and businesspeople, many names known to the public, provided testimony and gave blood and hair samples for drugs. Within the scope of the investigation, arrest decisions were issued for many well-known individuals.
