Turkish Airlines announced that due to the expected snowfall in Istanbul, some flights to and from Istanbul Airport have been canceled on Wednesday and Thursday as a result of the restrictions imposed.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) reported that heavy snowfall is expected along with strong winds in the city until Friday morning.
WARNING OF STRONG WINDS AND SNOWFALL IN ISTANBUL
In a statement from AKOM, it was expressed that from the afternoon hours of February 5, Wednesday, until Friday morning, strong snowfall along with strong winds would be effective throughout Istanbul. It was reported that winds expected to blow from the north at a speed of 40-70 km/h would cause regional heavy snowfall as they pass over the Black Sea, feeding on moisture.
SOME FLIGHTS CANCELED AT ISTANBUL AIRPORT
Following AKOM's warning, Turkish Airlines (THY) Press Advisor Yahya Üstün announced that some flights scheduled for February 4 and 5 at Istanbul Airport have been canceled. Üstün, who made a statement on social media, used the following expressions: "Due to the snowfall expected in Istanbul, a restriction decision was made by the Meteorological Emergency Committee (MADKOM), and some of our flights with departures/arrivals at Istanbul Airport on February 5 and 6 have been canceled."
