The United Arab Emirates has imposed a social media ban on children under the age of 15 to protect minors in the digital environment. Under the new regulation, individuals in this age group will not be allowed to open social media accounts or use existing ones. Authorities have stated that parental consent will not constitute an exception to the ban.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a notable step to protect children in the digital environment. The use of social media by children under the age of 15 has been banned in the country.

According to the UAE's official news agency WAM, a new decision regulating children's access to social media platforms was approved by the Cabinet.

AGE LIMIT OF 15 INTRODUCED

With the new regulation, the minimum age limit for social media use has been set at 15. Under the decision, children under the age of 15 are prohibited from opening social media accounts and using existing accounts.

Additionally, access to all features offered by social media platforms will be blocked for users in this age group.

PARENTAL CONSENT WILL NOT BE VALID EITHER

UAE Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated that the regulation aims to ensure children are present in the digital environment more safely.

Al Maktoum expressed that they aim for children to benefit from technology in an age-appropriate, safe, and balanced digital environment, while emphasizing that parental consent will not constitute an exception to the ban.

The UAE administration aims to increase digital security and reduce the risks children may face in the online environment with the new regulation. Officials stated that the decision is intended to adapt to rapid technological changes and protect children from digital threats.
