In Çorum, people who did not mind the cold weather formed long queues to receive the free soup distributed by the municipality. Images of the queue, which reached approximately 150 meters, became a hot topic on social media. CHP Çorum MP Mehmet Tahtasız, who shared the images on his X account, noted, "While we say that retirees cannot make ends meet, and citizens cannot make ends meet, we meant that we want a dignified increase in retirement salaries."
The free soup service offered by the municipality in Çorum brought together the elderly and the youth in the same line. Despite the cold weather, dozens of citizens waited in line for soup.
THERE WAS GREAT INTEREST FROM RETIREES AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Çorum Municipality continues to offer free soup in the city. A crowd, mostly consisting of retirees and young people, formed long queues to benefit from the hot soup distributed after Friday prayers from the Çorum Municipality Soup Fountain next to the Ulu Mosque.

Despite the cold weather, those who came to get free hot soup waited in a queue that stretched approximately 150 meters from the Soup Fountain to the Clock Tower. The images of the free soup queue were also captured by mobile phone cameras.

Sharing the images from his X account, CHP Çorum Deputy Mehmet Tahtasız stated, "A queue of meters formed for the free soup distributed by Çorum Municipality. The queue for free soup, mostly consisting of retirees, revealed the situation retirees are in due to the high cost of living. When we say retirees cannot make ends meet, citizens cannot make ends meet, we meant that we want a dignified increase in retirement salaries. The AKP government has skyrocketed inflation, turned salaries into bird feed, and made our people dependent on a bowl of soup. These images are a shame of the AKP government that impoverishes the people and makes them dependent on a bowl of soup. We will definitely change this system of poverty."
