KURTULMUŞ ATTENDED THE G20 PARLIAMENTARY SPEAKERS' SUMMIT

TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş answered journalists' questions on the plane returning from the G20 Parliamentary Speakers (P20) Summit in Brazil. Kurtulmuş stated that they proposed the suspension of the membership of the occupying Israel in the United Nations (UN) at the summit, and emphasized that there is an urgent need for a new global political and financial architecture, as the UN and other international organizations have been unable to produce solutions to political and financial inequalities and injustices, and have failed to provide peace, stability, and security.

“GAZA” WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STATEMENT

Kurtulmuş explained that they wanted a paragraph on the Middle East and Gaza to be included in the joint statement of the summit, but this did not happen due to objections from some member countries. He stated that in the statement of the Brazilian House of Representatives, some member countries expressed their views on developments in the Middle East, the atrocities in Gaza, and Lebanon, while other countries said that such issues should not be included in the P20.

"THIS PARLIAMENT IS MUCH CLOSER TO DRAFTING A CONSTITUTION"

In response to questions about the discussions on a new constitution, Kurtulmuş said: "Constitutional negotiations are a very challenging process. We have known this from the very beginning. But it is not impossible. On the contrary, I believe that this parliament is much more competent and much closer to drafting a constitution. Because it is a parliament with a very high representation power, 95% of the people's votes are represented in the Assembly, there are 14 political parties, 6 of which have groups in the Assembly. We have a parliament where there is not a monologue, but a plurality of voices. If our parties identify negotiation methods well and approach this issue without prejudice, saying 'I don't want it, I'm closing the door,' I believe that results can be achieved."

BAHÇELİ'S "ÖCALAN" CALL

Kurtulmuş responded to a question regarding MHP Chairman Bahçeli's suggestion that "the terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan should declare that terrorism has completely ended and the PKK has been dissolved during the DEM Party's Parliamentary Group Meeting" by saying: "The target of imperialism is very clear. They do not love Turks, Kurds, Arabs, Persians, Shiites, or Sunnis... They strive to implement divide-and-rule policies with the groups they can use. Now, if we see the game being played, our duty is not to produce discourses and policies that will increase divisions, differences, and conflicts in the region, but rather to enhance integration, cooperation, solidarity, and friendship."

"WE WILL PUT FORTH EVERY EFFORT TO ELIMINATE TERRORISM"

Moreover, Turkey is a country that has suffered greatly from terrorism, not only due to the increase in terrorism with the occupation of Iraq but also in the preceding period, and has paid a heavy price. Of course, one of the important duties of politics is to eliminate terrorism in our lands. We must make a decision. Either as victims of imperialism, everyone will wait for their turn, or together, within the framework of democratic methods and processes, we will put forth every effort to eliminate terrorism in Turkey.

"TURKEY CURRENTLY HAS NO AGENDA FOR EARLY ELECTIONS"

In response to a question about early elections, Kurtulmuş stated, "Turkey currently has no agenda for early elections. I think it is not very meaningful to discuss a non-existent agenda and engage in political debate. The parliament in Turkey has been elected and is in office until 2028. The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is in office until 2028. This is the responsibility given and entrusted by the nation."
