DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made a press statement during the break of the party's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting.

"WE ARE READY TO WRITE A NEW HISTORY"

Doğan stated, "We are witnessing together that a new page has been opened in the solution of a problem that has been on Turkey's agenda for a century and has caused deep social wounds in the last 50 years. The PKK announced its congress decisions and declared its dissolution. We emphasize the historical significance of this decision. This is not just a dissolution decision; it is a new construction process that invites everyone to democratic change and transformation. As the DEM Party, we underline that this decision is very important for this reason. One era is closing. The doors of a new era are opening. In addition to all this, we are also ready to write a new history. Therefore, the decisions we will make today in the MYK and the roadmap we will draw are being discussed with the seriousness that will shape not only this historical moment but also the future of the country," she said.

"WE ARE AWARE OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY"

Doğan expressed that they are aware of their responsibilities in this process of change and transformation and that they are ready for it, stating, "We reiterate that we need to wrap this process in cotton. We believe that all the work we will do in the coming periods will strengthen a peaceful living environment. We sincerely hope that the decisions announced today will bring goodness to all of us, especially to mothers, children, youth, and future generations. At the same time, this development has opened the door to a political solution to the Kurdish issue, which has been bleeding our hearts for years. Everything that has been shown or imposed as an obstacle to the democratic solution of the Kurdish issue, and that has been presented as a justification every time, ends with the PKK's farewell to arms. We must not waste this great opportunity," she said.

"THE MOST BENEFICIAL WORK OF THE CENTURY"

Doğan stated that they find the statements coming from the ruling side so far to be positive and expressed that they are faced with the responsibility of establishing equal citizenship and brotherhood law on the basis of democratic politics. Emphasizing that the DEM Party evaluates the decision to lay down arms and dissolve as a new opportunity based on peace, democracy, and freedom, Doğan said, "We need to come together and unite our strengths to make this historical opportunity permanent. Our tasks are now clear. We are talking about an era where words, not weapons, speak. We are faced with the task and historical responsibility of building a democratic republic where law and politics operate together. One of the most important addresses for this is the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), because the Assembly is faced with the responsibility of carrying out the most beneficial work of the century. Our hope is that the Assembly will take on this responsibility in a worthy manner and approach it accordingly," she said.

"PEACE AND DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY"

Doğan conveyed that peace is not just a possibility and that social peace can be achieved, stating that democratization is now a necessity. She invited everyone as the DEM Party to break their habits and take a position appropriate to the seriousness of this opportunity. "This process is neither a process of concession nor surrender, nor of winning or losing. This process is about building peace and a democratic society. This is a process that we must hold tightly to, saying 'Neither denial nor rejection, neither rebellion nor destruction.' There is no need for panic; however, we need speed. Why do we need speed? Because such processes also carry vulnerabilities within them. To prevent fragility, we need to strengthen this with law quickly and without panic. Therefore, we must protect this process," she said.
