Turkey started with a striking operation. While 16 suspects, including 9 police officers, were detained for leaking information to the 'Casperlar' criminal organization, notable communications emerged during the operation. It was observed that gang members asked police officers about many confidential information, including "search records," and received answers to all of them.
In the investigation of the 'Casperlar' criminal organization, it was determined that some public officials obtained information regarding arrest and capture records and criminal records under the instructions of the organization's leaders. An arrest warrant was issued for 17 suspects. In operations conducted in 6 provinces centered in Istanbul, 16 suspects, including 9 police officers, were detained. The WhatsApp correspondence between gang members and police officers also came to light during the operation.
THEY ENTERED INTO A RELATIONSHIP OF INTEREST WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS
As a result of the examination of digital materials seized during simultaneous operations conducted on January 9 as part of the investigation carried out by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the organization members had established contact and a relationship of interest with some public officials. Investigations revealed that the organization's leaders and members obtained information by having inquiries made regarding criminal records, arrest, and capture records through certain public officials who exceeded their duties and authority.
9 POLICE AND 16 DETENTIONS
In this context, an arrest warrant was issued for a total of 17 suspects, including 9 police officers, 1 court clerk, and 1 customs enforcement officer, one of whom is retired, who were evaluated to be acting within the organization hierarchy. While 16 suspects were detained in operations conducted in Istanbul, Muğla, Bursa, Giresun, Mersin, and Şırnak, searches were carried out at their homes.
WHATSAPP CORRESPONDENCE REVEALED
Notable details also emerged in the investigation against the 'Casperlar' criminal organization. The WhatsApp correspondence of gang members with the public personnel they worked with was also disclosed.
THEY ASKED FOR MANY CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION INCLUDING "ARREST RECORD"
It was observed that gang members asked the police who leaked information to them for many confidential information, including "arrest records," and received answers to all their questions.
PAYMENT IN EXCHANGE FOR ANSWERS
It was also noted in the correspondence that members of the criminal organization made payments to public personnel in exchange for the information they received.
