The severe storm and intermittent rain affecting the Marmara region caused tree falls, roof detachments, and traffic accidents. In Istanbul, the finial of the Mimar Sinan Minaret at the Hagia Sophia fell into the mosque's garden. In Bursa, the glass balconies of apartments in a building fell due to the strong winds.
The severe storm and downpour, which have been increasing in intensity since the morning hours across Marmara, continue to negatively impact daily life.
In Istanbul, the roof of a four-story building was torn off due to the storm's effects on Aydın Street in Beyoğlu. As a result of the roof debris falling onto the road, a parked light commercial vehicle was damaged.
EXPERT TEAMS TOOK SAFETY MEASURES AT HAGIA SOPHIA
The finial belonging to the Mimar Sinan Minaret at the Hagia Sophia Mosque fell into the mosque's garden. The General Directorate of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on its social media account that after the wind lost its intensity, the relevant expert teams took the necessary safety measures and that the intervention regarding the minaret finial would be carried out meticulously.
The statement also mentioned that the fallen tree in the mosque's garden would be removed in a controlled manner by municipal teams.
VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED
In the Güngören Industrial Neighborhood, vehicles were damaged when the roof of a six-story workplace fell onto parked cars. Fire crews intervened in the incident.
GLASS BALCONIES FELL
In Bursa, the strong downpour and storm that began in the morning negatively affected daily life. The glass balconies of the apartments in a building in the Nilüfer district fell due to the strong winds.
Due to the storm, the roof of the Halime Hatun Student Dormitory located on the campus of Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) was also blown away. Some windows of the building were damaged due to the roof debris falling behind the building.
TRUCKS IN MOTION OVERTURNED
In Kocaeli, due to the storm affecting the Northern Marmara Highway Dilovası connection road, two trucks and a van overturned. Traffic congestion occurred on the connection road towards Ankara. Vehicle passage is being controlled by gendarmerie teams.
SHIP TRAFFIC TEMPORARILY STOPPED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS
Due to the strong storm affecting the Dardanelles Strait, transit ship traffic has been temporarily halted in both directions.
