In the Torul district of Gümüşhane, 27-year-old Halis Pekin beat his 26-year-old wife Arzu Pekin to death with a piece of wood after arguing in front of their house. Following the incident, the suspect fled in his pickup truck, which was later found abandoned on the Trabzon highway, while security forces launched a large-scale operation to capture the murder suspect.
Gümüşhane was shaken by a horrific femicide that occurred around midday today. In the Torul district, a young woman was brutally taken from life by her husband.
HORROR AT THE WOOD STACKING AREA
The incident took place around 14:15 in the Değirmenyanı area of Merkez Mahallesi, a neighborhood in the district. According to the information obtained, a quarrel broke out between Halis Pekin (27) and his wife Arzu Pekin (26) at the wood stacking area right in front of their home for reasons not yet known. The argument quickly escalated into violence, and the enraged husband brutally struck the young woman with a piece of wood he grabbed.
KILLED HIS WIFE AND DISAPPEARED
As a result of the heavy blows, 26-year-old Arzu Pekin collapsed in a pool of blood and died at the scene. After the murder, Halis Pekin quickly fled the area by getting into his pickup truck. Upon notification from nearby citizens, emergency medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
SUSPECT IS BEING SOUGHT EVERYWHERE
The hot pursuit initiated by security forces to capture the suspect yielded its first result quickly. The suspect's pickup truck was found abandoned outside the borders of Torul district, on the side of the Gümüşhane-Trabzon highway. Extensive search operations have been launched in the region to apprehend the murder suspect, who is believed to have fled on foot after leaving his vehicle.
The lifeless body of the unfortunate woman was taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy procedures after the public prosecutor and crime scene investigation teams completed their work at the scene. The judicial investigation launched into the horrific murder is being conducted from multiple angles.
