With oil prices hitting bottom levels in global markets, the anticipated discount on fuel has turned into a fantasy. It has been announced that the expected 2.19 lira increase in gasoline will be reflected as 55 kuruş at the pump due to the activation of the sliding scale system.
Gas station signs are set to change once again. The decline in global Brent oil prices was expected to have a downward effect on domestic fuel prices and relieve consumers. However, contrary to market expectations, before the anticipated 52 kuruş discount on LPG could be reflected at the pump, news of a price hike came from the gasoline front.
THE SLIDING SCALE SYSTEM WILL BE ACTIVATED
According to information from industry sources, there has been a significant upward cost increase in gasoline prices. Journalist Olcay Aydilek announced an expected 2.19 TL hike in gasoline prices, summarizing the latest market situation with these words:
"Fuel has been misleading. While we expected a discount, a price increase is at the door. A 2.19 TL hike on gasoline appears to take effect tonight. Due to the sliding scale system, the expected increase to be reflected at the pump is 55 kuruş."
With the activation of the 'sliding scale' system, which aims to pass on less of the price increase to consumers by waiving some taxes, only 55 kuruş of the 2.19 TL hike will be added to pump sales prices.
NEW GASOLINE PRICES CITY BY CITY
With the 55 kuruş hike set to be reflected at the pump from midnight, average gasoline liter prices in major cities are expected to rise to the following levels:
- Istanbul 62.84 TL
- Ankara 63.78 TL
- Izmir 64.05 TL
- Eastern Provinces (Average) 65.40 TL
(Note: Fuel prices may vary slightly by province, district, and distribution company.)
