Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has appointed Ferhat Abdi Shahin, codenamed "Mazloum Abdi," a leader of the dissolved terrorist organization SDF/YPG, as his advisor.
In a report by the official Syrian news agency SANA, it was stated, "President Ahmed al-Sharaa, by decree No. 164 dated 2026, has appointed Mustafa Khalil Abdi (Mazloum Abdi) as an advisor to the Presidency."
SDF/YPG ANNOUNCED ITS DISSOLUTION
On August 25, 2026, Mazloum Abdi, in a statement made at the People's Palace in Damascus, announced the dissolution of the terrorist organization SDF/YPG and stated that full integration into the Syrian Army had been achieved.
Abdi said, "Today, we announce that the mission of the Syrian Democratic Forces has ended, and we declare with full responsibility that they have been dissolved as an independent military force."
THE PROCESS BEGAN WITH THE MARCH 10 AGREEMENT
The integration process between the Damascus government and the SDF/YPG came to the agenda after the end of the Baath regime in Syria on December 8, 2024. As a result of negotiations between the then interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa's administration and the SDF/YPG, an agreement was signed on March 10, 2025. The agreement envisaged the integration of forces affiliated with the SDF/YPG into the newly established Syrian army.
WILL JOIN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE
In the initial phase, tensions arose between the parties due to claims of non-compliance with the agreement, but a new deal was reached after an operation carried out by the Syrian army. Under the agreement, all forces affiliated with the SDF/YPG were to join the Syrian Ministry of Defense, and energy resources were to come under the control of the Damascus administration.
