The Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who did not attend the rally organized for CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested as part of a terrorism investigation, and remained silent about the appointment of a trustee, made statements during a live broadcast that ignited a new controversy. Özcan stated that he could not vouch for Ahmet Özer, saying, "He is an elected mayor, but I do not know him at all. However, I want to believe in the presumption of innocence."

The CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested and sent to prison as part of a terrorism investigation, and Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as the trustee in his place.
