Before the hearing of the case where Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey is being tried, tense moments occurred at the Bursa Courthouse. While a scuffle broke out between security forces and CHP Bursa Deputy Nurhayat Kayışoğlu at the courthouse entrance, security measures in the area were increased.
The trial of 63 defendants, including detained CHP Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, began at the Bursa Regional Court of Justice.
VERBAL DISPUTE BETWEEN CHP DEPUTY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT Due to the intense security measures taken during the transfer to the courtroom, a verbal dispute occurred between law enforcement and CHP Bursa Deputy Nurhayat Kayışoğlu. At moments of tension, this dispute briefly turned into a scuffle. Following the incident, security measures inside and around the courthouse were further increased by authorities.
Mustafa Bozbey CONTROLLED ENTRIES TO THE COURTROOM BEGIN As the scuffle subsided, the process at the courthouse continued. Under high-level security measures, the lawyers of the case and the defendants being tried without detention were called by name and allowed into the courtroom in a controlled manner.
While the bustling wait continued in front of and inside the courthouse, the hearing where Mustafa Bozbey will appear before the judge is expected to begin.
WHAT HAPPENED? Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that former mayors Mustafa Bozbey and Turgay Erdem, along with some municipal employees, had made illegal zoning allowance increases in exchange for bribes in construction projects in the Nilüfer district, providing financial benefits to themselves and project owners. Consequently, on March 31, 57 suspects, including Mustafa Bozbey, his wife S. Bozbey, daughter S.G, siblings R. Bozbey and E. Bozbey, some municipal employees, and numerous businesspeople alleged to have paid bribes, were detained.
One of the suspects referred to the courthouse was released after the prosecutor's interrogation. Later, among the 56 suspects referred to the criminal judgeship of peace, 23 suspects, including Bozbey, were arrested on April 4.
Apart from these individuals, it was decided to arrest 7 suspects, including former Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem, who was arrested on October 14, 2025, for crimes such as bribery, establishing a criminal organization, and laundering assets derived from crime, within the scope of this file as well.
Later, in the indictment prepared against the defendants, prison sentences of up to 402 years were sought for Mustafa Bozbey for the crimes of "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "receiving bribes," "causing zoning pollution," and "illegally assuming public office."
In the indictment, it was requested that former Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem be sentenced to up to 946 years in prison, and the other 61 defendants to various terms of imprisonment.
