Thailand reported that Cambodian soldiers fired light weapons and grenade launchers from their border position in Ubon Ratchathani province.

Hot moments were experienced on the Thailand-Cambodia border. According to a report by The Nation newspaper based in Thailand, Thai Army Spokesman Winthai Suvaree made a statement regarding the tension at the Cambodia border line.

FIRE OPENED ON BORDER POSITIONS

Winthai stated that they received reports of Cambodian soldiers firing light weapons and grenade launchers at Thai positions in Chong An Ma, located in Ubon Ratchathani province.

Winthai reported that they had "raised the army forces at the border to a high alert level" and that the army was ordered to respond proportionately to the situation. It was stated that no injuries or deaths were reported in the Thai army following the incident.

RESPONSE CAME AT JET SPEED

According to Khmer Times, Cambodian Senate President and former Prime Minister Hun Sen stated in a written statement that both countries accused each other of violating the ceasefire. Hun Sen expressed that they instructed the army to exercise restraint and to avoid retaliation, and called on ASEAN observers to conduct an investigation in the area where the tension occurred.

BORDER TENSION BETWEEN THAILAND AND CAMBODIA

Thailand and Cambodia, separated by 817 kilometers of border fences in Southeast Asia, have long been experiencing territorial disputes.

Following the violation of the border agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, a brief conflict occurred in the region on May 28, and the armies of both countries had agreed to resolve the issue peacefully.

About 2 months later, in clashes that broke out on July 24 along the border line, 32 people from both countries lost their lives.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai met in the capital Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia's mediation regarding the tension at their borders.

After the talks, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the parties had agreed to implement an "urgent and unconditional" ceasefire. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Cambodia of conducting attacks along the disputed border line, stating, "This is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement." The Cambodian Ministry of Defense denied the allegations that the country violated the ceasefire.
