Francesca's, a women's clothing and accessories brand operating in shopping malls across the United States, announced that it is entering a closure process. The chain, which has been in operation for 27 years, stated that it will gradually close approximately 457 stores nationwide.
Founded in 1999 as a single boutique in Houston, Texas, the brand has grown to over 450 stores in 45 states. However, it was reported that operations would be halted following a second bankruptcy filing at the beginning of February. It was also noted that one of the popular branches in New York would completely close within days.
70% DISCOUNT APPLIED
As "closing" banners were hung at the entrances of some stores, discounts of up to 70% were applied to products. In the announcement made on February 12, it was stated that the relevant branch would completely close on Thursday, February 26.
FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY IN 2020
Francesca's had filed for bankruptcy for the first time in December 2020 due to the economic difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the industry. Recently, it faced issues such as declining sales, increasing debt burden, high employee turnover, and consumers shifting to e-commerce platforms. Supply chain disruptions and a failed financing deal also negatively impacted the process.
The company stated that the bankruptcy process is being conducted under court supervision and aims to preserve the highest value for stakeholders. It was reported that the consulting firm Tiger Group, along with SB360 Capital Partners and GA Group, has initiated closing sales in hundreds of stores.
