A surprising development occurred in the case of 17-year-old Batın Barlas Çeki, who lost his life due to a collision with the vehicle of Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, the daughter of former Kızılay President Kerem Kınık. The mother, Hasret Doğan, who had cried out, "Is this the price of a life?" regarding the 2 years and 6 months prison sentence in December, stated, "All my material and moral damages have been compensated," and withdrew her complaint and appeal.
The mother of 17-year-old Batın Barlas Çeki, who lost his life due to a collision with a vehicle driven by Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, the daughter of former Kızılay President Kerem Kınık, Hasret Doğan, has withdrawn her complaint against the defendant and her appeal.
"MY MATERIAL AND MORAL DAMAGES HAVE BEEN COMPENSATED"
According to a report by İsmail Saymaz from Halk TV; Hasret Doğan stated in the petition she submitted to the court on February 19, 2026, that all her material and moral damages have been compensated. The petition included the statements, "I withdraw my complaint against the defendant Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir. All my material and moral damages have been compensated. I have no claims for compensation from the defendant. I also withdraw my appeal."
HE HAD RECEIVED A 2 YEAR 6 MONTH PRISON SENTENCE
In the case regarding the accident that occurred in 2023, in which Batın Barlas Çeki lost his life and three others were injured, Kınık was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison as a result of the retrial. The court ruled for the continuation of the travel ban for the defendant and the suspension of his driving license for one year.
SHE HAD PREVIOUSLY PROTESTED THE SENTENCE
Mother Hasret Doğan reacted strongly to the decision given in December 2025, criticizing the sentence with the words, "Is a life worth two years?" She stated that she would appeal, criticizing those who withdrew their complaints, saying, "The given sentence is like a joke. Is a life worth two years, and is the time spent inside only three months, which is also uncertain? The penalties given for crimes committed in traffic are really ridiculous. This is definitely not a punishment. A life has been lost and will never come back. I cannot accept this. I am sorry... My child is gone, and I am writhing in pain. I want to say this to those who have withdrawn their complaints; they are equally complicit in the crime of causing death. We will appeal again as part of the appeal process. But I don't know what the outcome will be. Because there is no punishment for this in Turkish law. If someone with a driving license is allowed, then everyone should kill. This is what the laws are telling people."
