In the city of Olonets, Russia, terrifying moments occurred at the Anshlag traveling circus. A 270-kilogram circus bear named Yashka attacked its caretaker during the show. The 16-year-old bear suddenly went out of control during the 'Crooked-Legged and Wheelbarrow' performance.
According to eyewitnesses, initially, the audience thought it was part of the show. However, as the bear viciously attacked its caretaker Ruslan Solodyuk and other staff intervened, the panicked audience began to leave the tent.
Galina Gurieva, who recorded the incident on her cell phone, stated, "It was shocking that there were no barriers for the safety of the audience despite the bear's size." The circus management claimed that the reason for the attack was the audience's refusal to turn off their phone flashes.
Caregiver Solodyuk noted that the bear was restless due to old age and joint pain and that it was on its last tour. Yashka, who was calmed with a stun gun, continued to run wildly around the arena, frightening the audience for a while longer.
In Russia, bears used in circus performances are often chained by their necks and forced to perform tricks. This incident has reignited the debate over the use of wild animals in circuses. Experts point out that animals taken from their natural habitats can become aggressive under stress.
