Ümit Özdağ, the leader of the Victory Party, who is detained in Silivri Prison, was transferred to the hospital due to health issues. The information regarding Özdağ, who did not attend the hearing today at the Ankara 26th High Criminal Court, was shared by the presiding judge.

The trial of Ümit Özdağ, the Chairman of the Victory Party, who was charged with a prison sentence of 3 to 7 years for allegedly revealing the identities of MIT members, has begun. The defendant Özdağ and his lawyer did not attend the hearing at the Ankara 26th High Criminal Court.

THE COURT PRESIDENT ANNOUNCED

The court president announced that the defendant's lawyers submitted a petition stating they would not be able to attend the hearing, and that Ümit Özdağ was transferred to the hospital due to his health condition, and therefore would not attend the hearing.

THE HEARING WAS POSTPONED TO JULY 8

The court president, announcing the interim decision, accepted the lawyers' petitions and postponed the hearing to July 8.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

According to the indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an investigation was initiated against Özdağ on February 26, 2020, for allegedly disclosing the identity information, positions, duties, and activities of MIT members during a press statement at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

A motion was prepared on March 9, 2020, for the lifting of Özdağ's parliamentary immunity based on Article 83 of the Constitution, and an indictment was prepared due to his inability to be re-elected as a member of parliament in the general elections on May 14, 2023.

The indictment indicated that Özdağ, during the press statement in the Assembly, was in a position to know that disclosing the identity information, positions, duties, and activities of MIT members constituted a crime under the relevant law, and it was reported that the suspect disclosed the identity information, duties, and activities of MIT members who were martyred in Libya.

It was requested that Özdağ be sentenced to imprisonment of 3 to 7 years in accordance with Article 27/2 of the Law on State Intelligence Services and National Intelligence Organization No. 2937 and Articles 53/1-2 of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237.
